First 'Juniors' Granby Camera Club meeting

Here are some photos from the first 'Juniors' Granby Camera Club meeting (Sorry all I had was my cell phone camera). There was an interactive presentation by Vern Wells. This will be repeated at our second meeting scheduled for Monday, July 14th.

The 'Juniors' Granby Camera Club is for the children of the Granby Camera Club. For additional information on how to be involved please contact me at paintblr@cox.net. The 'Junior' club's scavenger hunt words selected were Flowers and favorite. Only one submission per category per child. Print size suggested was 4x6 or 5x7.

MEETING NOTES FOR June2 2008

Rob Fisher opened the meeting and welcomed our guests. We introduced ourselves and shared where and what we might be taking photographs of this summer. We meet again on Monday, September 6. Our program will be Camera Club on Parade

Treasurer’s Report: Balance $381.86

Old Business:
1. New Members Information Packet
Ideas to be included: our goals, history, fees, day, time and place of meetings, scavenger hunt information, critiquing criteria, activities and programs. Rob, Harry and Tracy will be working on this over the summer.
2. Granby Library Exhibit
The 2nd Annual GCC Photo Exhibit is now displayed at the Granby Public Library for the month of June. For July and August, this exhibit will be set up again in the community room of the Senior Center. Eleven members contributed twenty one photos. Next year we will ask for the photographs to be brought to the April meeting so it is easier for Del and his group to plan the exhibit.Thanks to Del, Tracy, and Rob for setting up the exhibit! I have received some very positive comments about the exhibit so make sure you all go by for a look!
3.Holcomb Farm Contest
Marty Council from the Holcomb Farm came to the meeting to discuss any questions concerning the contest. You can check out the Holcomb Farm Web site for details. www.holcombfarm.org or www.holcombphoto.org
The theme this year is Products of Agriculture.
4. Pbase.com
Rob will set up an account for our club to post our photographs for viewing. Members will have special sub- folders for their pictures. We discussed how we can protect our photos from being copied and used with out our consent. Adding watermarks to the photos was discussed. Rob will let us know when to send your pictures and he will post them. He can use these for our opening fall program “Camera Club on Parade”. If you do not wish to post your photos but wish to have them in the presentation just let Rob know! These photos can be any of your favorite pictures ..no topic!!!!!
5. Simsbury Bank Calendar
The entries are due the middle of September. The rules will be posted on the forum.
6. Camera Club for Juniors
Member’s children only, ages 8-15. Check the forum for more information.

New Business

1. Scavenger Hunt Words for Summer: Favorite Picture, Sunset, Traffic
Please note that it was decided to have the favorite pictures be at least 5x7 or larger. The other categories can be 4x6 and larger. It was decided that we would enter one picture for favorite and if you wish several for the other two words. Remember these are pictures you have taken this last month!( during the summer) In September, Tom will bring his words for the next monthly scavenger hunt

3.Program Committee
Andy, Tracy, Nancy and Lawrence will plan the programs for next year. If you have any ideas please put them on the forum.

5. Field Trips: Keep your eyes out on the forum for dates, times etc.

6. BUGS
Children’s Librarian would like pictures of bugs for her summer reading program. Drop off as soon as you can. Size from 4x6 to 8x10. I spoke with her yesterday and she said size does not matter!



Program for the Evening: Painting with Light: Rob Fisher
This very informative program covering light techniques, types of painting with light, and different kinds of light sources.
Basic conditions used when painting with light: usually done in low light outdoors at night or in an unlighted room, slow shutter speed- few seconds to several minutes, and lighting source that has movement.
Types of light painting: line drawing effect, area lighting effect, paint smearing effect, combination of effects, combining regular photography with light painting photography.
Different kinds of light sources will vary from a flashlights to a mini-mag. Try different lights. .Experiment!!!!
After the program some stayed and did experiment!
