Also, for those places that don't allow tripods, I've found that a monopod gives much greater stability than handheld. A VR lens (vibration reduction) lens is supposed to give you a 4-stop advantage and will also lighten your wallet.

If this is about my last post, I would suggest that it be a comment, like this one is to your post, so that is stays as part of that topic .. just a suggestion .. but if this is regarding my Orchid show post, I did go and they did allow tripods because it was slow at the time (but I abandoned it because even when it was slow I felt like I was in the way) .. I think we should look into a CT Orchid show for a field trip, I got some interesting shots!
PS .. I have my eyes on an IS lens, but my wallet is already too light for the store to give it to me .. lol ..
